The School Day

The school day begins at 8.45am, when the school gates are opened. All children enter via the green gates on Blackthorns Close and a member of staff is always present to greet children and their families as they arrive at school.

The children will be greeted by an adult from their class and this is an opportunity for parents/carers to pass on quick messages.

The school entrance is locked at 8.55am. Any children arriving after this time will need to enter via the school’s main entrance.

Within the school day, the children will experience learning activities that address the different curriculum areas. More information on our broad, balanced and creative curriculum can be found on the Curriculum  page of our website.

The learning time during the mornings is often focused on English, Maths and Reading.

Each class has a morning break.

Each day, the children attend assemblies / collective worship sessions which are usually held in the school’s large hall.

Monday – collective worship theme for the week is introduced – led by the Headteacher
Tuesday – singing assembly led by Mark Travers, our choir club leader
Wednesday – either a Celebration of Learning assembly performed by one of our classes or a church assembly led by the outreach team from All Saints Church.
Thursday – class collective worship - led by class teachers
Friday – Celebration Assembly – led by Mr Jowett (Vice Principal)

Lunch breaks are also staggered across the school from 11.45am until 1.15pm. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 eat between 12 and 12:20 before going out play. Children in Years 3 and 6 eat between 12:20 and 12:40 while children in Years 4 and 5 play outside and then they swap over so that children in Years 4 and 5

The school day ends at 3.15pm for all children. The school gates are opened just before 3:15pm to allow parents to come into the playgrounds to collect their children.

The weekly total time in school amounts to 32 hours and 30 minutes.

Parents of children in Year 6 may give permission for their children to walk independently to and from school. Staff members have lists of these children and will allow them to leave without an adult. We also extend this offer to children in Year 5 during the summer term so that they can practise the independent travel to and from school during the months when there is plentiful daylight.

When extra-curricular clubs are running, these end at different times depending on the club. Parents/carers should check the collection time. Most clubs have collection from the blue gates by the school car park but some do have different arrangements so please do check.
