The government provides additional funding in order to develop provision of physical education. The PE and sport premium is designed to help schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, to give them the opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in school. The funding is provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. It is allocated for pupils in Years 1-6. Schools must publish details of how they spend this funding and the effect it has had on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment. Ofsted report on how primary schools spend their PE and sport premium funding.
At Blackthorns the funding is used to improve and enhance the quality and opportunity in our movement, PE and sports provision. The aim at Blackthorns is to develop physical activity, fitness and sports skills by promoting positive attitudes towards lifetime physical activity, fitness, and sports skills.
